Leading cycling industry companies founded the new association ‘Cycling Industries Europe’ (CIE) out of ECF’s Cycling Industry Club. This new association will bring together companies, cycle and accessory suppliers with bike share operators, cycle delivery companies, consultancies and digital service providers. The launch of the CIE took place at an event the 11th October.

CIE is now waiting for Belgian Royal approval to be officially a legal entity. The approval is expected in 2019.

Members of the ECF Cycling Industry Club have announced that their informal group is going to become Cycling Industries Europe in 2019, a new association for corporate advocacy at the EU level.

Founding members of Cycling Industries Europe (CIE) include Accell, PON, SRAM, Nextbike and Cycleurope, along with about 50 other companies expected to join. The association will include the Platform for European Bike Sharing and Systems so the new association can represent the whole of cycling’s commercial sector. Our founding members are coming from across the globe and represent diversity in cycling, from bicycle and parts makers to bike sharing, cycle logistics, online services, financial services, infrastructure, tourism and consultancy.

This page is set up to explain the membership arrangement for the new association. Please note that from January 2019 ECF will no longer collect donations for the former Cycling Industry Club, there will be a single payment by each company to Cycling Industries Europe and we will make a collective donation to ECF to co-fund part of their advocacy work which we feel has great value to cycling businesses.

Membership of CIE

Founding membership is open to open to all companies that have been members of the ECF Cycling Industry Club and the Platform for European Bike Sharing and Systems and to new companies that make a commitment to join before 31st December 2018.

Becoming a founding member of CIE is a message to your current and potential business partners, customers and suppliers that your company is committed to the strength of the industry as a whole, and to the benefits cycling can bring to society. Founding members will be clearly recognised in the communications of Cycling Industries Europe for their commitment to the new mission of the organisation. They will be invited to use the CIE logo in their own communications and in support of their Corporate Social Responsibility goals.

Founding members are entitled to fix their membership fee for three years (2019-2021) regardless of any change in trading levels. Founding members will also have some additional constitutional rights in the statutes of the new organisation, so they play a leading role in designing a high impact organisation that meets their goals.

Membership groups

Following the founding meeting of Cycling Industries Europe on 11th October we have provisional plans for the working groups that will be formed within the association. Members are entitled to take full part in the work of any group.

Bicycles and accessories group will cover work in the development of the cycle and e-bike industries including manufacture, distribution and retail sectors.

The Services group will cover all providers of services to cyclists or to the industry. Within the services group we will have several sub-groups and working groups including a bike sharing group that will take over the work of the Platform for European Bike Sharing and Systems.

The cycle delivery and cargo bike sector will be represented by a partnership with the European Cycle Logistics Federation.

Under development is a knowledge management group which will be first ever open platform for expert consultancies and research companies at the European level.

Membership application forms:

The first form in the links below is for from companies planning to become FULL members of the new association.

The second form is for Associated Membership which is for companies and associations not eligible for full membership.

FULL membership is for any company that trades in Europe (using a broad definition of continental Europe and neighbouring states) and sells products and services that can be interpreted as cycling, including services to other companies in the sector and to public sector bodies that promote cycling

Eligibility for associate membership is includes companies not trading in Europe or not providing products or services that include cycling and for associations or non-profit bodies including trade associations.

Membership fees

Fees are based on the same model used for donations to the ECF Cycling Industry Club, therefore it is not expected that there will be a significant change for current members.

Fees are based on the European cycling related turnover of the company. This means that membership should be fair for all companies, with the smallest paying as little as €500 per year and the largest €100,000.

A full table of fees is included in each form.

Fees will be invoiced in January 2019. An option to pay in two stages is offered for payments over €10,000 per year.
