Velo-city has something for everyone. We decided to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for in our rich programme of seven plenary sessions, over 80 parallel sessions and over 250 speakers. This article features a variety of sessions which focus on Cycle Highways.

Cycle highway is the informal name for a bicycle path that is meant for long-distance traffic.

The ‘CHIPS cycle highways’ session focuses on the CHIPS project (Cycle Highways Innovation for smarter People transport and Spatial planning). You’ll learn about topics ranging from high-level concepts for branding cycle highways to practical details like horizontal markings. There will also be a presentation about the international cycle highway manual. Speakers in this session include: Anna Garrett from the Office for Cycle Superhighways (Copenhagen), Sofie Pues from Province Of Flemish Brabant (Belgium), Lisette Hoeke from Breda University Of Applied Sciences, Tina Caers from the Province of Antwerp (Belgium), and Aleksander Buczyński from the European Cyclists’ Federation.

In ‘Masterclass - A Transnational Discussion on Cycling Superhighways’ you’ll find out more about the European countries developing cycling highways and the problems, challenges, and questions they encounter. Thought leaders and planning experts will come together to discuss the similarities and differences between these European countries. Who does what best? Meet the speakers in this session: Sjors Van Duren from Royal HaskoningDHV, Anita Stienstra from the Province of Gelderland (Netherlands), Brian Deegan from Urban Movement (UK), Lorenz Siegel from Copenhagenize Design Co., Markus Franke from Argus (Germany), and Vincent Meerschaert from Traject.

Cycling infrastructure in cities will be thoroughly discussed in ‘Connecting Cities’. This session showcases examples of cycle highways from sustainable ones in the Netherlands to median cycle tracks in Latin America. Moreover, traffic information for cyclists based on user needs will be presented, which takes into consideration the needs and challenges involved in how to make bike-related traffic information. How can one define the highest quality “gold standard” cycling infrastructure in an urban area? You can find out about the template highlighting ‘gold standard’ cycle corridors by joining this session. The speakers in this session are: Bert Zinn from Ministry Of Infrastructure (Netherlands), Signe Helledi from the Office for Cycle Superhighways, Neil Guthrie from Route Plan Roll, and Martijn Akkerman from Witteveen+Bos.
