There are thousands of people working to grow cycling right across the world who have almost no day to day contact with the bicycle industry. The work they do today influencing new investments in infrastructure and creating the next generation of cyclists will decide the markets of tomorrow. So how do the smart bike industry companies find out what is happening and give their support to the future makers? It is as a puzzle - its pieces are different but all necessary for seeing the whole picture. The European Cyclists’ Federation and the Cycling Industry Club firmly believe that it is the strong collaborations among various cycling actors that will be delivering impact on the ground. And the place we see them all together is at the Velo-city Nantes (France) where all aspects of cycling will meet from 2nd to 5th of June at the biggest conference of daily urban and leisure cycling in the world. But what are these different aspects of cycling and why is it so important to mix them together? Think advocates, EU project leaders, scientists, policy-makers, urban planners, industry representatives, politicians and everything in between. Some examples of these aspects are:

  • Cycling policy: Key persons from the private sector and public authorities from around the globe working on urban planning and engineering will discuss bicycle parking, infrastructure for bikes and e-bikes, highways and concrete solutions for mid-sized cities.
  • Campaigns and changing behaviors: Successful campaigns, approaches and tools for promoting cycling drawn from the experience of advocates, researchers and communications experts.
  • Tourism and Services: Exploring the potential of promising markets such as bike-sharing, application technology, e-bikes and cycling tourism by getting tips about the future trends from cycling tourism and service professionals.

Velo-city is where all these pieces of the puzzle fall into place. To help our industry colleagues get access to the best Velo-city the Cycling Industry Club has put together a dedicated Industry Day agenda for the 2nd and 3rd of June, but depending on different interests and future plans, there are numerous options on other days for the partcipants to take a grasp of the major trend-setters in key cycling fields. More information on the Cycling Industry Day and how to register can be found here.
