Helmond is the first Dutch city to join BTrackB! Together the city and the project focus to encourage cycling in families with young children. Specially a 10% increase in cycling for leisure. Overall goals include reduction of CO2 emissions and saving 14 million liters of fuel.
Focus of BTrackB is to increase cycling for leisure on the short distances within the cities. By enjoying the pleasant rides, the experiencing how fast cycling is within the city and the recreational areas just outside the city. The mobility to cinema’s, theatres and sport facilities amount to fifty percent of all daily mobility. Shifting this mobility will have tremendous effects on household expenditure towards mobility. BTrackB includes an intensive campaign with competitive elements which will attract many ‘cyclists to be’! The special target group for the families with children in the age of 9 to 15 years. These children are making their mobility choices right now.
The county of Helmond wants to realize a modal shift from the car to cycling of 1 % per year. In order to achieve this they want to give a quality impuls to the cycling infrastructure: improving the network, parking facilities and traffic education. The combination of improved free parking facilities and encouraging cycling through innovative campaigns like BtrackB must support the ambition of Helmond to become ‘fietsstad 2014’. Together with DTV consultants managing partner in BtrackB two campaigns will be worked out: cycling to the larger sport facilities in Helmond (2013) and cyling to neighbourhood shopping centra (2014).
