The City of Gdansk, a member of our CRC network, together with ECF Member, the Polish Union of Active Mobility, hosted the 11th Active Mobility Congress in Poland. Five companies received Cycle-Friendly Employer certificates at the event.
Between the 27-28 September, the City of Gdansk and PUMA hosted the 11th Active Mobility Congress. It was another edition of the most important Central-Eastern European event dedicated to broad aspects of mobility, with particular emphasis on cycling and walking, as well as good practices for building urban spaces for a high quality of life. The event was co-funded by the Interreg South Baltic programme, Parking Gets Smart project.
The thematic scope covered such areas as: "Mobility in the pandemics – how it changed our mobility behaviours ” and “Micro mobility – temporary trend or a permanent change?”. Other topics were “Safety – understanding, foreseeing and changing vision "zero" in the cities” and “Parking policy and sustainable mobility”.

Speakers from all over Europe, from Lithuania to Italy, from Belgium to Kosovo, attended the conference and shared their knowledge on topics such as pedestrian-friendly and liveable cities, parking schemes in their city or on how to read results of cycling climate studies. Over 250 people took part at the conference and listened to interesting presentations and debates or participated in the bike tour around Vistula Cycle Route.
Bike-friendly workplaces for over 1,300 employees
The Active Mobility Congress at the European Solidarity Centre is the traditional venue for awarding Cycling-Friendly Employer (CFE) Certifications. On the second day of the congress, CFE Certifications were awarded to representatives of companies and institutions that won last year’s edition of the "Bike to work and school - Cycle for Gdansk" campaign. These employers took the campaign as an opportunity to promote active mobility and establishing ambitious bicycle teams in their structures.
This year two companies received the Silver CFE Certification. One was the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, which is the first certified university in Poland, and the other one was a warehouse Omega Pilzno ITiS Godawski & Godawski. Three Gold Level Certifications were handed over Multiconsult Poland biuro w Gdańsku – Multiconsult, the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Gdansk and Stocznia Remontowa im. Józefa Piłsudzkiego S.A. - J. Pilsudski Shiprepair Yard S.A. Together these five employers have provided cycling friendly workplaces to over 1,300 employees.
All certified Polish employers, as well as from other countries participating in CFE, can be found on the map here.
The CFE Certification framework was developed to establish a European standard for cycle friendly companies. The certification is intended to help European companies to improve the situation for employees that cycle to work. In Poland the City of Gdansk and PUMA are the CFE Coordinator and responsible for national certifications. At the 2019 Congress, the first employers in Poland were certified.
