European Cyclists' Federation co-CEO Morten Kabell to leave the organisation
The European Cyclists’ Federation announced today that co-CEO Morten Kabell will leave the organisation at the end of this year. Kabell took the decision to return to his native Denmark for personal reasons and will take up a position in Copenhagen.
At the beginning of this year Morten Kabell and Jill Warren joined ECF as co-CEOs based in Brussels. Working closely together, they have successfully led the organisation through a year of unprecedented challenges and opportunities in promoting the cause of more and better cycling for all in Europe. This includes ongoing advocacy for cycling as an essential part of a green recovery and for greatly increased funding at EU level for measures that enable more cycling, as well as a recently achieved EU Rail Passenger Rights breakthrough requiring all new and refurbished trains in the EU to offer dedicated spaces for bicycles.
ECF President Christophe Najdovski stated on behalf of the Board: “We are sorry to see Morten go but understand his reasons and thank him for his contribution to ECF’s success. The ECF Board and I wish him well in the next phase of his career and look forward to our paths crossing again in the cause for more and better cycling in Europe. Going forward we are confident that Jill Warren, who has our full support, will continue to lead ECF from strength to strength as CEO.”
Morten Kabell stated: “I am sorry to be leaving ECF but am proud to have been part of it and everything Jill Warren and I have accomplished this year in strengthening the organisation and advocating for cycling. I leave ECF in good hands with Jill and hope to be able to cooperate with ECF in other ways in future.”
Jill Warren stated: “I wish Morten all the best. I value the trust the Board places in me and look forward to continuing to lead ECF’s very important work to achieve more and better cycling for all, and its many benefits for our climate, public health, liveable cities and towns and for the economy.”
