After inspiring Velo-city conferences in Rio de Janeiro and Dublin, Ljubljana (Slovenia) will be the next host of Velo-city 2020. Join the global cycling summit from 2nd through 5th of June 2020 and explore the theme “Smart cycling Inclusion”.

Christophe Najdovski, President of the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), announced from the stage of Velo-city 2019 Dublin that the 28th edition of Velo-city will be held in Ljubljana, one of the most proactive cities in the world, when it comes to redesigning space for people. Marcio Deslandes, ECF Velo-city Series and Global Policies Director, says "We are very happy to have Velo-city in Ljubljana in 2020! The city has a lot to teach about shared space and making cities more liveable and inclusive".

Deputy Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, Janez Koželj, who is “an activist of sharing: space, vehicles, buildings”, is eager to showcase his city on an international stage. Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and sustainability capital of SE Europe, a quickly developing city with a clear vision to create multi-purpose, shared spaces and pursuing the goal of putting the quality of life at the forefront. Velo-city 2020 Ljubljana will be about disseminating high-quality information on cycling, showcasing global best practices, integrating cycling into relevant policy sectors and encouraging the greater use of cycling.

On receiving the news that Ljubljana will host the Velo-city 2020 conference, Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković declared:

“I am pleased that Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, which is committed to sustainable development, is hosting such an important bicycle conference. We are proud that international experts have recognized our progress in the field of cycling, and that the European Cyclists’ Federation has entrusted us with the organization of this meeting, where we will highlight the latest activities, guidelines and measures in the field of bicycling in the cities.”

The conference attracts academic experts, decision-makers, local, regional and national governments, international institutions, civil society organizations as well as local cycling associations to network and exchange ideas from the cycling world.

There will be ample reason to celebrate next year, as World Bicycle Day will take place on June 3rd, on the day of the bike parade at Velo-city! Stay connected, more information on the conference programme and speakers will be announced shortly.
