Made in FIAB: European Mobility Week 2017 in Italy
The European Mobility Week in Italy ended last Friday (22nd of September) with the fourth edition of the Bike2Work Day, in which Italian Minster of Transport, Mr. Graziano Del Rio, participated along with Fiab President, Mrs. Giulietta Pagliaccio. This occasion marks a significant milestone for cycling advocacy in Italy, as this is the first time that a member of the Italian Government participates in the Bike2Work Day.
Fiab is proud to have welcomed Minister Del Rio for a 6 km bike ride around Rome, during which the Minister along with members of Fiab could "test" the daily problems faced by urban cyclists, problems familiar for the Minister who is himself a true urban cyclist. Mrs Pagliaccio asked Minister Del Rio to officially establish the national B2W day in September, together with the national Bike to School day in May, as beyond cycling infrastructure, cities need initiatives that help share and acquire new mobility models.
Fiab dedicated the B2W Day to all cyclists, to all those who try to change their habits and in this way change their world.
European Mobility Week 2017 was a big success for our Italian member. Fiab and its members organised and participated in 300 events from pedalling to speeches, seminars, free breakfast for cyclists, bike to school, bike to shop and many more. It is safe to say that the EU mobility week in Italy is “made in Fiab”!
