From high-tech designs to daily use: the Evolution of Cycling at Velo-city Global 2016, Taipei
Bernhard Ensink, ECF Secretary General with Madeleine Majorenko (Head of the European Economic and Trade Office), one of the many representatives that came to support Velo-city.
East and west cycling expertise meet at Velo-city Global 2016 The motto of the conference is the Evolution of cycling and it approaches five different themes: urban transition, moving lifestyles, sustainable economy, sharing societies and design in motion. The program of Velo-city Global 2016 will provoke a unique exchange between eastern and western expertise with rich plenary sessions featuring mayors from all over the world, famous architects such as Francine Houben from the Netherlands, the renowned film producer Hiroki Owada, important politicians from the region and the CEO of the Taipei Design Capital 2016. On top of that there will be sub-plenaries on economics, bike sharing systems and bike tourism. Aside from the plenaries, the program is composed of 28 parallel sessions covering all aspects of cycling. The last two days of the conference – right before the Taipei Cycle Show - will be focused on the role of the industry on the development of cycling, with keynote speakers such as Tony Lo, CEO of Giant, and John Burke, CEO of Trek. One of the highlights of the conference will be the design exhibition and the winner of the design prize.
