Velo-city 2019 Venue – The Convention Centre Dublin
This year’s Velo-city conference will be held in Dublin, Ireland in the world class Convention Centre Dublin (CCD). This article will take a look at the Convention Centre and what this year’s participants can expect from the venue whilst they get to grips with cycling’s biggest questions.
As our Velo-city participants arrive in Dublin, they’ll find it an easy trip to the CCD, located at the heart of Dublin’s transport hub in the Docklands, the finance and technology hub of the city. Upon entering the building, they will be treated to panoramic views of the River Liffey, Dublin city centre and the Wicklow mountains through the stunning glass-fronted atrium gives visitors.
The CCD was designed by Pritzker award-winning Irish-born architect Kevin Roche, quickly becoming a landmark building on Dublin’s skyline when it opened in 2010. The building has now played host to over 1500 events, winning 40 industry awards and putting Ireland on the map for international conferences.
Inside, there are 22 purpose-built rooms, a 2000 seat auditorium, the 3000 capacity Forum room and 4500 square metres of exhibition space. There is cutting-edge technology and Wi-Fi throughout and banqueting facilities for up to 3000 delegates. For the eco-conscious among us, we hope there are many, 95% of the building’s waste is recycled and most of the food locally sourced and biodegradable kitchenware in use.
At the end of the day, leaving the CCD, you will be within easy walking/cycling distance of many of Dublin’s best hotels, restaurants, attractions and of course pubs. We’re looking forward to seeing you all there and tackling our cycling vision of the future together!
