The Velo-city 2019 Dublin Bike parade was filled with music, theatre, sport, culinary delights, and a designated UNESCO biosphere!

Kicking off with some distinct Irish culture, delegates will congregate at the recently unveiled Luke Kelly Statue.

The Freedom Machine, consisting of women on bikes and in costume celebrating the important historical role of bicycles for suffragettes and the emancipation of women, led the bike parade.  Participants carried handmade banners depicting Irish suffragettes and joined in the chant ‘Votes for Women, Votes for Bikes’.

Delegates cycled through the streets of Dublin towards the Sutton to Sandycove (S2S) cycle route. On this route delegates were met by a host of community groups, families and cycling enthusiasts followed the delegation along the UNESCO designated Biosphere, a location that is one of the most highly designated and ecologically sensitive sites in the world. Bike parade participants enjoyed unparalleled views of Dublin Bay before completing the cycle in the beautiful surrounds of St. Anne’s Park.

In St Anne’s Park, delegates enjoyed food and drinks as well as a selection of fun games including cricket, yoga, athletics, ultimate Frisbee, Mountain Bike and BMX courses and rounders.
