Through many different forward-looking sessions during Velo-city 2018, we discussed how new technologies influence the future of cycling.

During the first day of Velo-city 2018 we focused on low tech solutions that still remain unexplored, presenting visionary projects from different cities. The second day featured our stimulating technology plenary, where we explored how new technologies could revolutionize mobility in the next few years, as well as the relevance of 200-year old technology like cycling. Global leaders in the field discussed some of the emerging challenges for governance, cities and advocates as new technologies go live.

“Cycling is a new technology”, Kevin Mayne, Development Director in the European Cyclists’ Federation.

The third day featured a think tank discussion, where world leading experts received questions about how they would overcome the challenges that prevent cycling taking its place in the growing topic of Big Data. During the final day, E-bikes were on stage, focusing on the current status of the e-bike sector and the legislation in place, insights into the future development of the sector, as well as case-studies from Brazil and a presentation on speed pedelecs research.
