ECF acting president and head of Sweden’s cycling advocacy organization Cykelfrämjandet Lars Strömgren has been named one of Sweden’s 101 most influential sustainable voices by the leading Swedish environmental publication “Aktuell Hållbarhet”.

Lars “misses no opportunity to ensure his voice is heard” during public discussions of cycling and sustainable transportation, the publication notes. Sweden’s national cycling strategy and the recently implemented electric bicycle subsidy program are two of the president’s initiatives noted by the magazine, which has acknowledged Swedish environmental leaders for the past ten years. This year’s list includes politicians, industry leaders and public intellectuals and thinkers from a variety of backgrounds and fields.

The list was topped by Swedish Green Party politician and Minister for Financial Markets Per Bolund, whose spot was earned in no small part thanks to the success of the electric bicycle subsidy, an idea brought to the minister’s attention by the advocacy work of Cykelfrämjandet and Lars Strömgren. “It’s fantastic that Per Bolund should be honored with this acclamation, which essentially means that he is currently the individual in Sweden with the greatest potential to address environmental concerns,” comments Lars Strömgren.

“Moving Beyond Zero”, the campaign for traffic planning agencies to adopt a new Vision Zero that factors in the positive health and environmental effects of active mobility and the brainchild of Mr. Strömgren was also cited by “Aktuell Hållbarhet” for Lars’s inclusion on the list. Moving Beyond Zero was launched in late 2017 and already has brought international attention to the importance of traffic strategies that benefit cyclists and pedestrians.

Leadership and an ability to foster teamwork are important attributes for inclusion on this prestigious list. The magazine notes that “Today’s demands for new forms of leadership are enhanced by the increased priority on collaborations to address major issues...the individuals who manage to enable these collaborations are undoubtedly today's power players.
