We are pleased to welcome the Dutch Cycling Embassy at the Velo-city 2018 Exhibition in Rio de Janeiro!

The Dutch Cycling Embassy is a public private network for sustainable bicycle inclusive mobility, which represents the best of Dutch Cycling: knowledge, experience and experts offered by private companies, NGO’s, research institutions, national and local governments.

A quick chat with the exhibitors, representing the Dutch Cycling Embassy:

1.            What are you looking forward to achieving in Rio de Janeiro?

We will participate with a Dutch Cycling Pavilion at Velo-city in Rio de Janeiro. This pavilion will be realized with a number of partners, such as the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water, the Province of Gelderland and the City of Nijmegen. As you might know, Velo-city 2017 was held in the province of Gelderland, in the Cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen. First and foremost, we are present at Velo-city 2018 in order to present the Netherlands as cycling nation no.1! One of the main reasons why the city of Nijmegen and the Province of Gelderland are present at the exhibition is to ensure the legacy of Velo-city 2017. Another strong motivation is to expand our network in South America. We think that Velo-city offers excellent opportunities for this. For partners such as Loendersloot Groep and Folkersma Routing and Sign and the Dutch Cycling Embassy itself, it is important to get in touch with the stakeholders when it comes to cycling, in order to discover opportunities in Southern America.

2.            What new things are you bringing to Velo-city 2018, and by extent the City of Rio?

We bring approximately 40 years of cycling experience to Rio de Janeiro, which resulted in becoming the most bicycle-friendly country. Among other things, we will share the story about our National Cycling Strategy ‘Tour de Force 2020’, share more about innovations such as wayfinding during recreational cycling, and showcase regional cycling highlights of the Netherlands!

3.            Which are the areas of interest for you to visit in Rio de Janeiro?

The state of and potential for cycling in Rio de Janeiro, cycling in the broadest sense and the “next steps” needed to get more people cycling in Rio de Janeiro, but also other Latin-American cities.

The Dutch Cycling Embassy has a dedicated parallel session, scheduled for Day 2 of Velo-city 2018; Wednesday 13th June 2018 at 11.40-12.40.
