ECF member, the Cycling Club of Idalion (Δημοτικός Όμιλος Ποδηλάτου Ιδαλίου), is organising its 11th annual cycling day as part of this year’s MOVE Week. The Cypriot cycling group is an active promoter of cycling and sustainable mobility who organises bike rides on a weekly basis.

Taking place on the 1st October, the day coincides with a public holiday so a large crowd of cycling enthusiasts are expected to take over the main avenue of Dhali which will exclude car-traffic over a space of 4 km.

A whole range of activities are planned for the day; from a cycling tour, to an old bicycles exhibition, to road safety workshops. These workshops will be for both children and adults but they’re not only for cyclists, they’re for car drivers too. The Cycling Club of Idalion wants to help car drivers learn how they can protect cyclists in their everyday commutes. Where safety concerns are sometimes a limiting factor in active mobility, this great idea encourages people to look out for one another on the road.

This MOVE Week event isn’t only about cycling, local sports clubs will also be there giving demonstrations and getting people moving, with local bands playing as well. Not to mention all the cycling clubs in Cyprus, the mayor and the town committee.

This is an inspiring example of a MOVE Week event which is trying to spread the enthusiasm for active mobility to the whole community. Great job Cyprus!
