Adam Bodor in New Europe

A few months after EuroVelo was officially included in the TEN-T regulations, Adam Bodor, the ECF’s Director of EuroVelo, Cycling Tourism and Regional Policy, was interviewed by New Europe. During the interview he was asked about the growth of cycle tourism, the implications of the TEN-T decision and the exciting future ahead for EuroVelo.

The Eurovelo project is aimed at opening up 70,000 km of cycle ways, stretching from Kiev to Normandy and from the north of Scotland to Athens and beyond.

Just before Christmas it was announced that the new Regulations relating to the EU’s TEN-T Network would include references to cycling and EuroVelo for the first time.  And so it happened; The new TEN-T Regulations were officially adopted following positive votes in the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union at the end of last year. These documents can now be viewed here.

Of course the next step is to confirm how the text will be used in practice and the ECF has already been in contact with the relevant Unit with the European Commission to help to clarify this point.  Nevertheless, it is clear that the inclusion of a reference to EuroVelo in the this important document will give the European cycle route network more recognition within European and national governments.
