Velo-city has something for everyone. We decided to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for in our rich programme of seven plenary sessions, over 80 parallel sessions and over 250 speakers.

Bicycle parking is a crucial aspect of cycling infrastructure and can also be a major determinant of an individual’s mobility choices. For all transport modes, parking availability at the beginning and the end of an individual's journey influences their choice of transport. Bicycle parking ought to be regarded as an element of major importance by policymakers in their work on sustainable modes of transport.

At Velo-city 2019, bike parking is a key topic under all conference sub-themes, in particular for “Environment and Infrastructure”. Two full sessions are explicitly dedicated to this topic during the conference week.

At the ‘Bike Parking Policy’ session taking place on Tuesday, June 25th at 2:15 PM you’ll discover why parking is a major determinant of people’s mobility choices. Join this session to find out all about the regulatory aspect of parking, in particular parking norms. In this session, Fabian Küster, Senior Policy Officer at the European Cyclists’ Federation will be presenting the ECF’s newly launched report on Making buildings fit for sustainable mobility – Comparing regulations for off-street bicycle and car parking in Europe.

The report looked at a total of 56 off-street parking regulations for both bicycles and cars in a total of 31 European countries, thereof 28 national regulations and 28 regional regulations in Austria, Belgium, and Germany. The Parking Report is the first of its kind to systematically collect, compare and rank parking codes across Europe. In order to rank regions and countries, a cluster system of four categories (excellent - good – sufficient – insufficient) were developed for bicycle and car parking. Also in this session, Elke Franchois from Mobiel 21 will be talking about how cycle parking for residents cycling starts at home.

During our ‘Bike Parking Data’ session on Thursday, June 27th at 11.45 AM you’ll be able to find out more on parking policy focusing on bicycles, analysing data in GIS and bicycle parking, and bike share solutions. What does it take to co-create cities that are smart, sustainable and satisfying places to live in? Speakers in this session include Geoffrey Usé from Parking.brussels, Stine Hagelskjær Jensen from the City Of Copenhagen, Monique Harmsen from Lumiguide Smart Mobility Solutions, and Charles Carey from Biella Research.
