Last week, German ECF member organisation ADFC presented the 7th edition of its Fahrradklima-Test on cycling conditions in German towns and cities. With over 120,000 participants, ranking 539 cities, it is the largest study of its kind worldwide. Like in the previous survey carried out in 2015, the city of Münster in North-Western Germany was designated as the most cycling-friendly German city with more than 200,000 inhabitants.

The Fahrradklima-Test (literally "cycling climate survey") uses a consumer focused approach to evaluate the cycling policies and conditions of a city. For instance participants filling the survey are asked whether cycling in their city is confortable or stressful, if cycle path are maintained during winter or if they feel safe when cycling. The novelty of this edition is the interactive map displaying the results for all the cities and including also data from the previous edition.

Financial support for the survey was provided by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure as part of the implementation of the national cycling strategy for 2020.
