Velo-city has something for everyone. We decided to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for in our rich programme of seven plenary sessions, over 80 parallel sessions, and over 250 speakers.

Let’s dive into our main theme, ‘Cycling For The Ages’, which can be interpreted in a variety of ways: as the ages in a human lifetime, or as in eras or periods of time. So what does it mean to cycle through our own ages? How can cycling be as inclusive as possible, a mode of transport available to all? How can cycling be a solution to current issues such as climate change, considering the ages of our socio-economic systems?

Maybe at some point in your childhood you get your first bicycle and start learning how to cycle. The first time you manage to take off on your bike without any help, you get excited about this new feeling of freedom and speed. How can we get more children on bicycles? Union Cycliste Internationale will be talking about promoting children’s cycling education through several initiatives and programmes. You can learn even more about cycling education by joining our Education’ session.

Teenagers might be tempted to take a break from cycling. In our Cycling for the Ages’ session, you get the chance to learn about innovative projects in schools that promote cycling among teenagers. Taking a break from cycling might happen only till you rediscover it during your adult life when you will be cycling to university or work. You can find out all about bike-to-work campaigns and employers enabling their employees to cycle to work in Cycling & The Workplace: Cycle-Friendly Employers’.

A new parent? A change in lifestyle or ability? Join a quick round of poster sessions on cycling around milestones and abilities to spark discussion on keeping people cycling. When people retire they might find themselves rediscovering cycling and planning longer cycling journeys. You can find out more about challenges for elderly cyclists as well as their bike safety in Cycling for the Ages’.

You can find out all about how cycling is changing communities and vice versa in ‘Cycling & Communities’. Having a holistic approach to cycling means adopting a systems perspective and this is why interconnectivity is crucial when looking at cycling and communities. How does a behavioural approach to increasing cycling look like? Find out in our ‘Behaviour Change & Cycling’ session.
