The current process of motorization in developing countries is expected to result in a manifold increase in motor vehicles between now and 2050.

Apart from causing an increase in GHG emissions, transport in developing countries also causes congestion and in contributing to air pollution, accidents and a general decrease in the quality of life in many of the cities in developing countries.

Half of all trips in cities are short and within cycling distance. Cycling bears substantial significance for avoiding emissions, poverty alleviation and development, so the protection and the promotion of cycling have to become an ingredient in comprehensive mobility plans to mitigate GHG emission in developing countries. The overarching goal of the Partnership is to mobilize global support to reduce the growth of GHG emissions generated by land transport in developing countries by promoting more sustainable, low carbon transport.

ECF Role

According to its statutes, ECF’s objective is to promote cycling for the benefit of people in Europe and beyond.

ECF wants to exchange and share its knowledge, expertise, and experience on cycling as a low carbon mode of transport through the internet, newsletters, participating in conferences and workshops and networking.
