World Bicycle Day 2023: Celebrating the bicycle in creating more sustainable, healthy and inclusive societies

Date:

02 Jun, 2023 11:00 - 12:30

Each year on 3 June, the UN-declared World Bicycle Day is a key occasion to celebrate the bicycle and highlight its role in creating more sustainable, healthy and inclusive societies. Because World Bicycle Day falls on a Saturday this year, the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), the World Cycling Alliance and Novo Nordisk/Cities Changing Diabetes will mark World Bicycle Day 2023 on Friday 2 June with a webinar to highlight some of the people and organisations who are leading the way in promoting more and better cycling around the world.

During the webinar we will launch a new report entitled “Cycling for healthier and more inclusive communities”, which has been created in partnership between ECF and Novo Nordisk/Cities Changing Diabetes.

The webinar will take place on Friday 2 June from 11.00 – 12.30 CEST. Speakers include:

- Henk Swarttouw, President, ECF
- Jill Warren, CEO, ECF
- Philip Amaral, Policy and Development Director, ECF
- Jo Jewell, Director, Cities Changing Diabetes
- Sheila Watson, Deputy Director, FIA Foundation
- Fiona Bull, Head of Unit, Physical Activity, Dept. of Health Promotion, World Health Organization
- Lauren Thomas, founder of Mozambikes, a bike-focused social enterprise in Mozambique (featured in the report)
- Maren Ahlers, Egre Menged Impact, a cycling community in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (featured in the report)
Katja Paternoster, PiBiP/Bicivrtec, a programme in Slovenia teaching pre-school children to cycle (featured in the report)

Join us to celebrate World Bicycle Day and some of the people across the world promoting the biycle as part of a more sustainable and healthy future!
