Sneak Preview on Market Makers Session at the Cycling Industry Leaders' Summit
By 2030 the levels of cycling in the EU have the potential to double, which means not only potential to uplift bike sales and prices, but also that the cycling market could account for 400,000 new jobs. 12 million e-bikes will be on our streets and trails and cargo bikes could deliver half of the local goods movements in Europe. Ambitious thoughts or reality? Learn more about it at our Cycling Industry Leaders’ Summit, in Utrecht, March 1!
How will this happen? Which markets will determine the growth and which countries will develop their cycling potential? The Cycling Industry Leaders' Summit is pleased to bring together five visionaries who are leading the change across Europe, each sharing their unique insight into the markets of the future. During an interactive and lively session we will give you the chance to plan your company’s future. Based on the insights of the Market Makers, where will you invest in market development in the next ten years?
Who are these Market Makers?
Camille Thome (FR), Director of Départements et Régions Cyclables
Lars Strömgren (SW), President of Cykelframjandet
Raluca Fiser (RO), President of Green Revolution
Reindert Augustijn (NL), Program Manager Traffic and Transport at Provincie Gelderland
Isabella Burczak (CH), Manager of Advocacy and Mass participation events at UCI
What’s on the table for discussion?
The Swedish Government just put aside €105 million to grow the e-bike and e-cargo bike market. This is a spectacular success for the development of e-bike sales in Sweden, and can be seen as the benchmark for all European countries to follow. How was it achieved and how can it be expanded on a European level and even globally?
Cycle tourism accounts for 500,000 jobs in Europe, which is a bigger number than the amount of jobs delivered by the cruise ship industry. Which regional governments are spending the €1.6 billion Euro reserved for cycling by the EU? And why are those governments betting on cycling and the cycling tourism to transform their economies?
Tourism is 10% of the world’s gross domestic product and this share will increase if not in share, in amounts for sure. While some tourism markets will grow in size not always for the better with mass tourism phenomenon, some will grow in a sustainable, thorough and seducing-profitable way. Cycle tourism is one them.”
Camille Thome, Director of Départements & Régions Cyclables
Which European markets are most ready for further growth? Will it come from copying the fantastic investments of the Dutch regions, making every city a cycling champion, or could it come from Eastern and Southern Europe where there are 100 million non-cyclists waiting to be introduced to cycling?
And there is more…
Besides the mentioned examples, there are many more developments going on. With smart cities, bike sharing and connected cycling on the rise, new opportunities for the industry are countless. In regards to these developments, what is the role of the Market Makers and what can we learn from them?
Besides focusing on the lessons from the Market Makers, we will also focus on visions from Disruptors, the Dutch example and get reactions from Industry Leaders. For more information on the programme and a video invitation of Saskia Kluit, Director of Fietsersbond, visit the event page here.
