Cargo bike friendly cities: Tracking cargo bike developments across Europe

Date:

28 Feb, 2023 14:00 - 15:30

Many European cities are grappling with increasingly complex challenges related to urban mobility. From tackling climate change to curbing congestion, cargo bikes have huge potential to address these challenges while improving overall levels of cycling and enhancing quality of life.

With more and more individuals, companies and cities turning to the cargo bike as a solution, they are increasingly seen as a critical tool in sustainable urban development. No less than 50% of urban trips related to the transport of goods could be shifted to cargo bikes. However, data on the wider picture is not readily available. How cargo bike friendly are European cities today? We wanted to find out.

For the first time, the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) has systematically analysed the cargo bike friendliness of 125 European cities, looking at a range of criteria, including financial incentives, sharing schemes and projects. ECF’s new cargo bike friendly cities dashboard will facilitate ongoing comparison of data on cargo bikes between cities and serve as a crucial resource for policy officials, industry leaders, and climate and sustainable mobility advocates.

Join us on 28 February at 14:00 CET for an online event to mark the launch of the dashboard and the unveiling of Europe’s cargo bike friendliest cities. The event will include a presentation of the dashboard , a keynote speech and a panel discussion with high-level speakers.
