Promoting Bicycle use in urban areas With the on-going urban mobility problems in many municipalities across the globe, brought by over-reliance on private motorised transport, local and regional authorities will increasingly turn to the bicycle to help remedy the situation. The "Cities for Cyclists" network will encourage this change. Members will benefit considerably from the prestige of their associated contribution to such change as well as the extra access to information they gain. The European Cyclists' Federation relaunched "Cities for Cyclists" as a global network at the Velo-city Global 2010 conference on June 25 in Copenhagen, during the Conference session "Collaboration for the future ". The services will be expanded as more cities join. Besides this, the ECF office running "Cities for Cyclists" will also work as an information centre where member cities can ask for help in finding solutions to specific problems. The ECF office will also act as a network hub insofar as members seeking help can also get in contact with other members that may be working in the same area. The membership fee covers this part of the activity, but if more help is required then the ECF office can provide further help on a fee basis. Network structure The ECF will set up a Council of the "Cities for Cyclists" network. This Council will act as an advisory body to the ECF Board. The Council will include one of the members of the ECF Board together with between two and four representatives of the cities in the network. Every year the "Cities for Cyclists" network will hold a General Workshop for the network members. This meeting will give city representatives the chance to meet face to face and exchange information on implementing bicycle plans, involvement of bicycle users' associations, etc. When the Velo-city conference is organized in a European city, the timing of the General Workshop will be linked with the conference.
